The experience of completing the assignments were very beneficial to me. Regarding the ICT list, I found out all the hardware and software that the school has and the ways of accessing them. I had already known about the hardware but I did not know all the software.
The reflection and philosophy statement forced me to think about how ICT is used in my school and by myself. I am as guilty as the other teachers of really not making use of the few resources that the ministry of education has provided. For instance, better use could be made of the multimedia projector, vcr and dvd player. I realised however that many teachers do not know how to use these reources.
From doing the reflection I also realised that I need to learn more about how to use ICT especially as a tool in teaching. I do not know much about creating lessons using technology and I think it is essential that teachers learn to do so. The off the shelf software available is really inadequate for covering the curriculum content that I have to cover.
the assignment made me realise that the min. of ed. really needs to be more aware of what is happening in schools. The hardware and software in school are really outdated. There is no internet access! It's not an incentive for teachers to want to use the technology in school.

Dayah,
I understand your concerns. Edwin expressed something similar in his blog. Please read my comment there as I provide a link to a website that your school can use to develop a school educational technology plan. Ideally this plan should come from the ministry but in its absence there are some steps your school can make to ensure that the technology is implemented according to best practice.
Thanks Aisha. I just read Edwin's blog and I agree with his statements. We have to be proactive and try to get members of staff and administration to buy into the use of whatever ICTs we have available as a viable teaching tool. I just copied and pasted the website you suggested.I will check it out as soon as possible.

We didn't always have internet access available at our school not did we necessarily have a connection in the lab where my classes are. I still try and use the technology. We shouldn't not use it merely because we don't have all or the latest or best tools available.
